BODY CARE: SOLVING SKIN PROBLEMS
- 7 Sep 2021
Our body is our armour. It shields and protects us and gives us structure. Our skin, which is our largest organ, is sometimes partially neglected. Many of us may stand guilty of ignoring the skin on our bodies and over pampering our face. While it’s evidently the part that most of us notice first, it doesn’t justify overlooking the rest of it. So with this in mind, we vow (and hope you vow with us), to treat our body just like our face.
Some of the skin problems that we face include pigmentation, dark spots, body acne, oily skin, and the occasional sunburn. Let us gain a deeper understanding of these issues, and fight back!
If you find darkened patches on the skin, it is probably a type of pigmentation. It is caused by increased levels of melanin. It is the pigment that gives skin its color. There are several kinds of pigmentation, most common ones being: Melasma, post-inflammatory, and sunspots. Melasma is common with pregnant women, and is caused by hormonal changes. Post-inflammatory inflammation can be caused by any skin inflammation, such as acne. Lastly, sunspots are a result of excess sun exposure.
Sunscreen has proven to be a best friend for our skin. Not surprisingly, it’s one of the most important factors that reduces risk of hyperpigmentation. Further applying Sweet Almond Oil too helps with protection from UV radiation and keeps the skin strong and protected.
Our Cedarwood/Petitgrain Body Oil works well to reduce pre-existing hyperpigmentation. It is a combination of various high quality oils which help to revitalise the skin and get rid of any dark patches and spots.

The worst thing about breakouts is that they can pop up anywhere. Body acne is a common problem, not just among teens but adults as well. The common places where you will find body acne are the chest, neck, shoulders, and back. This is because the upper body has more sebaceous glands, which means more sebum production. The acne develops when oil and dead skin cells clog the pores. The clogged pore turns into a blackhead, which can get inflamed.
Tight clothes can rub on the skin. This combined with heat and sweat can irritate and inflame pores. This causes what is called ‘Acne Mechanica’. This is why it is advised to wear relatively comfortable and loose clothing to manage body acne.
Body acne can be controlled by following a proper routine. Hygiene is something that is immensely important. Properly cleansing the skin everyday is the first step. Avoid hot showers and take cold ones helps soothe inflammation. Using a mild and natural cleanser helps in removing excess oil buildup and sweat. Exfoliating at least twice a week removes dead skin cells that clog the pores. Further, keeping the skin moisturised keeps it hydrated and strong.
Our Cedarwood/Petitgrain Body Oil has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties that treat body acne. It also calms skin inflammation, especially in sensitive areas, and prevents skin infections.

The main cause of oily skin is active sebaceous glands. Especially in times when heat and humidity is high, the body sweats more. The sweat accumulates, and clogs the pores. Other causes may include genetics and hormonal changes. These may be difficult to prevent, but can be managed. Regular cleansing is a must to remove the dirt and impurities that get stuck.
For many people, a proper diet is helpful. Choosing more whole and fresh foods over those with trans fats and a greasy texture is a welcome change. And as we always say, staying hydrated is the best thing you can do for your body and your skin.
Using the right skincare products is also important. A suitable routine can make your life much easier. Our Birch Sap Facial Tonic Mist can be used as an excellent body mist. It is most suitable for oily, sensitive, and acne prone skin. It provides the instant refreshment that the skin craves. Removing excess oil and buildup, it regulates the skin’s delicate pH balance. Just because your skin is oily, it doesn't mean that it is not to be moisturised. In fact, using light weight oils, such as Argan Oil, adds the required nourishment. It regulates oil production in the body and helps achieve the right balance.

Sometimes no matter how much sunscreen you have on, you just can’t escape this. Sunburns, as the name suggests, are caused due to excessive sun exposure. A sunburn is indicated when your skin turns red and hurts. Severe burns can even cause blisters. Rashes too are common in excessive heat exposure. That being said, SPF is always essential, whether you’re in or out. It is advised to reapply it every 2 hours.
Moving on from a preventive outlook, what do you do if you have already been a victim of sunburn? For this, Aloe is your best friend! Applying aloe vera gel on your skin gives a much needed cooling effect. It soothes sunburns, calms inflamed skin, and eases the pain. Another remedy is applying Jojoba Oil. It contains Vitamin E and other antioxidants that help reduce inflammation. It speeds up cell regeneration, making it a wonderful treatment for sunburn.
